Kenneth Feinberg to Strip Clubs: Don’t Count on Me   Published: 06/22/10 23:41:10

That was the message from BP claim czar, Ken Feinberg, when I asked him what he thought about the “Mimosa Dancing Girls” strip club petitioning for relief from the BP’s $20 billion escrow fund.  The club says it lost business to the spill because Gulf fishermen can’t afford to come anymore.

I’m dubious about that claim. I’m very dubious about that claim,” Feinberg said. “But I don’t want to prejudge any individual claim and I think we will study this and decide how attenuated claims can be that will be eligible or ineligible for compensation under this independent facility.”

'Once the leak stops and final payments can be determined, claimants who accept a check will have to sign a release in which they agree not to sue BP, Mr. Feinberg said. Those whose claims are rejected can appeal to a three-judge panel that he has yet to name. '

Feinberg, who lives outside Washington, immediately began traveling to the gulf states last week to talk with governors and residents. Mr. Feinberg, a 64-year-old lawyer, is trying to build a multistate operation from the network of claims offices that BP hurriedly established after the April 20 explosion of its leased rig and the disastrous leak that followed.

LMRP Cap attempt now failed, back to Tophat   Published: 06/03/10 09:21:47

BP announced Wednesday it had abandoned its latest plan to use a massive diamond wire cutter to cut the pipe spewing oil.

According to a CNN report, BP has abandoned its original plan to use a diamond wire cutter that its engineers had hoped would cleanly cut the riser pipe spewing oil into the Gulf of Mexico. It will instead use a more effective, if less precise, cutter, the federal government's point man on the disaster said Wednesday. . . Because the rougher surface left by that cut will not accommodate the tight seal needed for installation of the lower-marine riser package, engineers will use the "top hat" instead,  BP drops diamond saw; 'top hat' plan back

High Surf Advisory   Published: 12/24/09 10:11:38

Dangerous Rip Currents today and Friday on Panama City Beach

High Surf Advisory

Bay (Florida)

COASTAL HAZARD MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TALLAHASSEE FL
525 AM EST THU DEC 24 2009
...A HIGH SURF ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR BAY...GULF...AND
COASTAL WALTON COUNTIES FROM NOON CST TODAY UNTIL 6 PM CST ON
FRIDAY...
...THERE IS A HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS TODAY AND FRIDAY ALONG
ALL OF THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE AND WESTERN BIG BEND BEACHES...
.WINDS ARE ALREADY INCREASING OUT OF THE EAST-SOUTHEAST OVER THE
COASTAL WATERS EARLY THIS MORNING OUT AHEAD OF A DEVELOPING LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER TEXAS. AS THIS LOW CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN
AND MOVE NORTHEASTWARD INTO THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY LATER
TODAY AND THIS EVENING...WINDS WILL FURTHER INCREASE OUT OF THE
SOUTHEAST THIS AFTERNOON...BEFORE SHIFTING TO THE SOUTH THIS
EVENING AND THEN SOUTHWEST OVERNIGHT. ON FRIDAY...AFTER THE COLD
FRONT AND SQUALL LINES PASS THROUGH THE REGION...WINDS WILL BECOME
WEST TO WEST-NORTHWEST AND SLOWLY DIMINISH THROUGH THE DAY. THESE
STRONG WINDS WILL CAUSE SURF TO BUILD RAPIDLY ACROSS THE AREA
BEACHES TODAY...WITH BREAKING WAVES REACHING AS HIGH AS 5 TO 7
FEET AT THE WALTON AND WESTERN BAY COUNTY SHORE LINES THIS
AFTERNOON. SURF HEIGHTS ARE EXPECTED TO PEAK IN THE 7 TO 9 FOOT
RANGE WITH HIGHER SETS OVER THESE SAME AREAS TONIGHT...BEFORE
SUBSIDING BACK TO 5 TO 7 FEET WITH HIGHER SETS ON FRIDAY. AT THE
BEACHES OF SAINT GEORGE AND DOG ISLANDS IN FRANKLIN COUNTY...
BREAKERS WILL REACH 3 TO 5 FEET THIS AFTERNOON...PEAKING AT 4 TO
6 FEET WITH HIGHER SETS TONIGHT...BEFORE DIMINISHING TO 2 TO 4
FEET ON FRIDAY. THIS HIGH SURF WILL CREATE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS RIP
CURRENTS...AND EVEN THE MOST EXPERIENCED SWIMMERS AND SURFERS ARE
ADVISED TO STAY OUT OF THE WATER. ALSO...SOME MINOR BEACH EROSION
WILL BE POSSIBLE DUE TO THE HIGH SURF...BUT TIDAL DEPARTURES ARE
EXPECTED TO REMAIN QUITE LOW WHICH SHOULD PROHIBIT ANY MAJOR
COASTAL FLOODING...WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF THE MORE
VULNERABLE ROADS SUCH AS STATE ROAD 30E WHICH LEADS TO THE SAINT
JOSEPH`S STATE PARK.

Officials beef up police presence for spring break   Published: 12/11/09 08:51:50

Panama City Beach officials plan to spend $25,000 to hire off-duty state troopers who will help patrol college students visiting north Florida for spring break next year.

Mayor Gayle Oberst says the funds will help cover the time, per diem and housing for 24 troopers who will help the local force. The money will also go toward covering the cost of using state patrol cars.

Oberst says the community is trying to encourage good behavior from spring break attendees and doesn't want to dissuade any college students from visiting. But she says the community wants them to remember to control themselves.
